The Surrey Enthroned Commanders Rule of Six meeting

On the 13th September 2020 Mark Masons Hall advised the changes to the rules relating to social gatherings in England and what this means for Masonic meetings. With immediate effect meetings in England of all Units belonging to the Orders administered from Mark Masons’ Hall were restricted to no more than six.

As the Installation meeting of the Surrey Enthroned Commanders Lodge No 1219 could not take place in June due to the suspension of all Masonic Activity the installation meeting of the Lodge took place on the 24th September 2020.

The Lodge was opened by the Worshipful Commander, W.Bro. Chris Cradock, R.A.M.G.R., who welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending this rather unusual meeting. A ballot was taken to admit as a joining member W.Bro. John Hardy. This proved in his favour and W.Bro. John will be welcomed into the Lodge and presented with a copy of the By-Laws at the next meeting.

The next item was to parade the Lodge Banner. On this occasion, due to Covid-19 Regulations, the Banner was not paraded but the Junior Warden delivered its history. The Worshipful Commander read the names of those who have passed away: - W.Bro. Ernie Wonnacott, R.A.M.G.R., on the 6th November 2019; and W.Bro. John Smith, , R.A.M.G.R., on the 25th January 2020, and delivered a short prayer. The main item on the agenda was to install W.Bro. Chris Eley, R.A.M.G.R., P.A.Prov.G.M., as Worshipful Commander for the ensuing year. Bro. Scribe read the Dispensation to enable the Lodge to elect officers for the ensuing year due to the Lodge not being able to hold its regular meeting on the day appointed in the by-laws.

The Worshipful Commander, W.Bro. Chris Cradock, R.A.M.G.R. installed W.Bro. Chris Eley, R.A.M.G.R., P.A.Prov.G.M., into the Chair of the Lodge in a most sincere manner. The new Worshipful Commander thanked W.Bro. Chris for the way he was installed, and the other Officers for attending to make this a very special, if rather unusual, meeting.

The Worshipful Commander then read out the list of Officers he has appointed for the ensuing year.

The Worshipful Commander gave a short talk entitled ‘The Cowan’, a word originating from Scottish operative masonry of long ago which denoted ‘Dry-dyker’ who did not use mortar or prepared stone in his trade.

The next item was to elect the Worshipful Commander, Treasurer and Warder for the ensuing year. W.Bro Chris Eley, R.A.M.G.R. was elected as Worshipful Commander, W.Bro. Adrian Kidney, R.A.M.G.R. was elected as Treasurer and W.Bro. Chris Casselden was elected as Warder.

A Notice of Motion was given to make W.Bros. Ted Melber and John Finlayson Honorary Members of the Lodge. Apologies were given for all those unable to attend the Lodge due to current restriction on attendance. The Lodge was then closed and the Temple prepared for the meeting of the Surrey Installed Mark Masters Lodge.

All Installed Masters and Enthroned Commanders are encouraged to join the Surrey Installed Mark Masters Lodge No 1219 and the Surrey Enthroned Commanders Lodge No 1219. Both Lodges meet on the same day at the Surbiton Masonic Centre.

Joining these Lodges will not only afford you an enjoyable means of increasing your Masonic knowledge but also give you the opportunity of meeting other installed Masters and Commanders from all parts of the Province. You will hear many eminent speakers giving addresses and answering questions on matters of Mark and Royal Ark Mariner interest and, from time to time, you will witness demonstrations and presentations of particular workings of these and related ceremonies.

The Lodges meet twice a year, on the 3rd Wednesday in June and the 4th Thursday in September.
