The Surrey Installed Mark Masters Rule of Six meeting

On the 13th September 2020 Mark Masons Hall advised the changes to the rules relating to social gatherings in England and what this means for Masonic meetings. With immediate effect meetings in England of all Units belonging to the Orders administered from Mark Masons’ Hall were restricted to no more than six. In September the Installation meeting of the Surrey Installed Mark Masters Lodge No 1219 was held at the Surbiton Masonic Hall.

The Lodge was opened by the Worshipful Master, VW.Bro. Brian Berry, P.G.J.O., who welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending the meeting. A ballot was taken to admit as a joining member W.Bro. John Hardy. This proved in his favour and W.Bro. John will be welcomed into the Lodge and presented with a copy of the By-Laws at the next meeting.

The next item was to parade the Lodge Banner. On this occasion, due to Covid-19 Regulations, the Banner was not paraded but the Junior Warden delivered its history. The Worshipful Master read the names of those who have passed away: -W.Bro. Ernie Wonnacott, P.G.J.D., P.Prov.G.J.W., on the 6th November 2019; and W.Bro. John Smith, P.A.G.D.C., P.Prov.G.J.O., on the 25th January 2020.

The main item on the agenda was to install VW.Bro. Brian Berry, P.G.J.O., as Worshipful Master for a further year. Bro. Secretary read the Dispensation to enable the Lodge to elect officers for the ensuing year due to the Lodge not being able to hold its regular meeting on the day appointed in the by-laws.

VW.Bro. Brian Berry, P.G.J.O., P.Prov.G.S.W., was Proclaimed as Worshipful Master for a second year by the Director of Ceremonies. The Address to the Master was given by VW.Bro. Chris Eley, to the Wardens by W.Bro. Paul Haycock, to the Overseers by VW.Bro. Chris Cradock, and to the Brethren by W.Bro. John French.

The Worshipful Master then read out the list of Officers he has appointed for the ensuing year. Notice of Motion was given to make W.Bros. Ted Melber and John Finlayson Honorary Members of the Lodge.

The Secretary proposed that the Lodge gives a donation in the amount of £1,000 in the name of Enthroned Commanders Lodge to Simon McCarthy’s 2022 Mile Bike Ride to raise funds for the 2022 Surrey MBF Festival. Apologies were given for all those unable to attend the Lodge due to current restriction on attendance.

The Lodge was then closed and after the customary photographs we retired to the bar for some refreshments.

All Installed Masters and Enthroned Commanders are encouraged to join the Surrey Installed Mark Masters Lodge No 1219 and the Surrey Enthroned Commanders Lodge No 1219. Both Lodges meet on the same day at the Surbiton Masonic Centre.

Joining these Lodges will not only afford you an enjoyable means of increasing your Masonic knowledge but also give you the opportunity of meeting other installed Masters and Commanders from all parts of the Province. You will hear many eminent speakers giving addresses and answering questions on matters of Mark and Royal Ark Mariner interest and, from time to time, you will witness demonstrations and presentations of particular workings of these and related ceremonies.

The Lodges meet twice a year, on the 3rd Wednesday in June and the 4th Thursday in September.
