We all met in the upstairs bar before the meeting to refresh acquaintances over a drink or two before we were called into the Tudor Rooms for the meeting. Once everyone was comfortably seated, the meeting was called to order by the Chairman of the Mess, VW.Bro. Richard Baker, Deputy Provincial Grand Master.

Following the Chairman’s, the Secretary’s and the Treasurer’s Reports, and the Election of Officers the meeting was closed The dinner followed, comprising of an excellent menu of Atlantic Prawn, Avocado and Mango Cocktail; Surf and Turf Rump Steak and Whitby Wholetail Scampi; finished off with Amoretti Trifle.

WW1 Battlefields

Following the toasts the Guest Speaker, W.Bro. Guy Sudron, was introduced by VW.Bro. Richard Baker to give a moving talk entitled “From the Somme to Flanders, 100km in 3 days”.

This described his fundraising walks through the World War One battlefields and the many war graves they visited on the way to the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium, a war memorial dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown.

The President of the Mess, RW.Bro. Ian Clark, thanked W.Bro. Guy on behalf of all assembled for his very thought provoking presentation. RW.Bro. Ian then made W.Bro. Guy an honorary member of the Mess and presented him with a cheque towards his chosen charity - ABF, The Soldiers Charity.

The evening was brought to a very satisfactory conclusion with the Chairman formally closing the evening, with best wishes to all.
