The February meeting of the Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge of Surrey No 1726 was held at the Sutton Masonic Hall.

Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge - Lecture on the 4th Degree

Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge - Lecture on the 4th DegreeAfter opening the Lodge, the Worshipful Master, W.Bro. Chris Eley, welcomed our many guests and visitors, which included the RW Provincial Grand Master, RW.Bro. Ian Clark, the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. John French, the Past Provincial Grand Master, RW.Bro. Ray Hussey, a number of Members of the Past Executive and guests from other Provinces.

A ballot for a joining member, W.Bro. Roy Miller, PProvGStwd, was taken and proved in his favour. The Worshipful Master welcomed Roy into the Lodge and mentioned that Roy had been installed into the Chair of Croydon Lodge at the age of 92. At that meeting the Provincial Grand Master had made a field appointment to PProvGStwd in recognition of all that Roy has done for Freemasonry over many years, along with what a great ambassador he is for the Mark degree.

W.Bro. Andrew Ford was declared Worshipful Master and W.Bro. Jeff Penfold was declared Treasurer for the ensuing year. The Lodge then voted on a proposition to donate the sum of £1726 to the 2022 Festival via the MBF Walk, which was carried. The Provincial Grand Master thanked the Lodge for this kind donation and for their support for the Festival.

The Lodge was called off and preparations made for the lecture. This included moving the Altar to the centre of the Lodge surrounded by the three lights and moving the Overseers to the right of the Worshipful Master and the Senior and Junior Wardens.

The Lecture entitled ‘The 4th or Mark Master Degree’ was given in the form of a catechism by the Worshipful Master assisted by W.Bros. Tim Ford and Bill Barr describing the making of a Mark Master as practiced in America. This was well received and prompted some discussion afterwards. The Lodge was then called on.

After the Charity Steward’s report had been received the Provincial Grand Master had the pleasure of presenting MBF collarets to W.Bros Peter Unwin and David Wills with many thanks for their support for the Festival.

In the evening the members of the Mark Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge of Surrey and their many guests dined together in perfect harmony honouring loyal and Masonic toasts.
