Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Surrey
Report of the Provincial Grand Secretary

My three years as Provincial Secretary has been a very happy, rewarding and gratifying experience, involving a very rapid and continuing learning curve, whilst being mentored by my predecessor RW.Bro. Ian Clark, to whom I give my sincere thanks.

You may be aware that sadly over the last few years I have had some challenges dealing with my wife’s rapidly deteriorating Alzheimer’s disease. Fortuitously my duties as Provincial Secretary have, at times, had a therapeutic effect, and have been a saviour to my sanity. During my tenure as Provincial Grand Secretary I regret that my opportunities to be out in the field visiting our Lodges have been somewhat restricted by my personal circumstances.

Once again, my sincere thanks to the Executive Team for their patience, guidance, help and assistance during this term. Also my appreciation to all those Secretaries, Scribes and others, who have diligently submitted their Annual Returns, Installation Returns and Summonses on time and properly completed. Without their support the Province would not be able to function as well as it does. The Grand Lodge Keystone on Line (KOL) database continues to work very positively for its stakeholders, and is delivering on its main purpose of improving Mark Grand Lodge administration and bureaucracy.

The challenging and painstaking task of updating and publishing the Provincial Year Book was once again enthusiastically undertaken by our Provincial Grand Registrar, W. Bro. Tim Ford. This publication continues to be a most useful source of information both for our own Mark Province and the other Orders in Surrey. As always, we rely heavily on Lodge Secretaries and Scribes checking entries for their Lodges and submitting Installation Returns and Annual Returns accurately and on time.

The Surrey Overseer continues to be our main annual publication. Articles are always sought from members of the Province for both the Overseer and the Provincial web site. You will have seen the two Mark pages in the latest edition of the Surrey Mason. This will be a regular feature and gives us an opportunity to tell others about the Mark degree. Recruiting new Mark Master Masons into our friendly degree is our aim, and I urge you all to seek out and sign up new candidates. Remember that being a Craft Mason, is a pre-requisite for all Candidates into Mark Masonry, so please fully support and engage with your Craft Lodges. By making the Craft stronger, Mark Masonry will reap the benefit, by creating more opportunities to recruit Mark Master Masons.

I sincerely thank the members of the Provincial Grand Stewards Lodge, under the very capable hands of the Lodge Secretary, W. Bro. Bill Barr, particularly for their able assistance in the preparation for our Annual Meeting at our new venue, Croydon Masonic Hall, on Saturday the 18th March 2017. Lastly, my grateful appreciation for the assistance, support and encouragement given to me by the Provincial Grand Registrar, the Provincial Grand Treasurer, the Provincial Deputy Grand Secretary and the Provincial Assistant Grand Secretary.

Trevor J Sadler.
Provincial Grand Secretary.
