Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Surrey
Annual Report of the Provincial Grand Charity Steward

I have been a year in the role of Provincial Grand Charity Steward and it is true to say that with the new role comes many challenges. One such challenge is to encourage our members to sign up and support the Mark Benevolent Fund Surrey 2022 Festival. As the new boy on the block, I have spent a lot of time reviewing the way forward to ensure 2017 will have some extra challenges as we will all be celebrating 300 years of Freemasonry.

The Inter Provincial Cricket match will be hosted this year by Surrey, at St Johns School Leatherhead. Surrey will not only be hosting the match but will also be looking to recover the trophy from Sussex. The Mark Benevolent Fund will be hosting a walk around London on Saturday 6th May 2017, our team consisting of our Provincial Grand Master, Ian Clark, our Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Chris Eley, our Festival Secretary, Bill Barr and our webmaster and photographer, Bob Tuthill will be walking 8 miles around the London Parks all in aid of the 2022 Festival. They will be looking for sponsorship.

Our first Swimmathon organised by Mike Neville in aid of the 2022 Festival will be held at Guildford on Sunday 22nd January and the first Provincial Quiz will be held at Nutfield on Saturday 25th February and of course we have the Cha Di Da on Saturday 1st April at the Burford Bridge Hotel, Box Hill. Details of all these events can be found on the Provincial web site here.

As you know, we now have a team of Group Charity Stewards who are responsible for a number of individual lodges within their group. This is a vital role, not only for general advice to the lodge Charity Steward, but also to give the lodge up to date information in relation to festival events and other social events within our province. As the Provincial Grand Charity Steward the Representatives are my eyes and ears on the ground and are able to report back to me any issues that may be causing concern in relation to Charity matters. The Provincial Executive are always on the lookout for new talent to help our Charity team, so if you are looking to get more involved within the Province please feel free to contact me via the Provincial Secretary or your Group Charity Steward.

Make Your Money Matter. This is a very easy way to help raise funds for the 2022 Festival. Every lodge will be given a ‘M’ shaped money box which will be managed by your Lodge Charity Steward. The idea is that at your festival board the ‘M’ will be circulated around and any loose change can be put into the box. Once the box is full the Lodge Charity Steward will empty the contents and forward the total to our Festival Treasurer, David Barden
