Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Surrey
Report of the Provincial Grand Secretary

I have pleasure in presenting my annual report as the Provincial Grand Secretary.

As expected, my first year in Office has been a “steep learning curve” experience, and I wish to place on record my sincere thanks to the Executive Team for their guidance, help & assistance during this Term, as without it, life would undoubtedly have been much more challenging. Also my appreciation to all those Secretaries and Scribes who diligently submit Annual Returns, Installations Returns and Summons etc., mostly on time and properly completed. Without their input the Province would not be able to function as well as it does.

The Grand Lodge database system, Keystone on Line (KOL), is now firmly bedded in, and is seemingly working well for most stakeholders, and its introduction has streamlined our Mark Master Masons bureaucracy, bringing substantial savings in resource input, thus minimising overall costs- a win-win situation.

I am pleased to report that all Mark and RAM Lodges within the Province were visited in the year, either by members of the Executive or by Representatives of the RW Provincial Grand Master. Amongst other meetings, the Provincial Grand Master officially visited the following Surrey Lodges during the year – Pride of Surrey, Knightsbridge, Noel, Percy, Weyside, Weald of Surrey, Addiscombe, Collingwood (Dedication of a Lodge Banner), Warlingham, Oak Tree, Bolingbroke, Woodstock, Richmond, Comites Sigillorum, Curfew, Sanderstead, Rose, Kintore and Croydon.

The Provincial Grand Officers Mess held a successful “Open” Evening on 13th Sept 2014 at Nutfield, and the AGM is planned for 15th May 2015 at Guildford.

The Surrey Overseer was distributed in June and January. Articles are always sought from members of the Province for both the Overseer and the Provincial web site

The challenging and painstaking task of updating and publishing the Provincial Year Book was this year enthusiastically undertaken by the new Provincial Grand Registrar, W.Bro. Tim Ford, albeit under the watchful eye of the previous incumbent. This publication continues to be a most useful source of information both for our own Mark Province and the other Orders in Surrey. As always, we rely heavily on Lodge Secretaries and Scribes checking entries for their Lodges and submitting Installation Returns and Annual Returns accurately and on time.

The Annual Charity Dinner Dance (CHA DI DA) was held on Saturday 25th October 2014 at the Preston Cross Hotel, and was a success, thoroughly enjoyed by all present. Photos can be seen on the web site.

The Inter-Province Cricket match was planned to be a 4 way contest hosted by Sussex at Ardingly on 27th July 2014 where unfortunately Middlesex were unable to field a team. The results of the matches ended in a 3 way tie between Surrey, Kent and Sussex with Sussex winning the trophy due to the better run rate- Middlesex are due to host next year’s event.

I thank the members of the Provincial Stewards Lodge, under the leadership of their enthusiastic Lodge Secretary, W.Bro. Grateful appreciation also for the sterling assistance, support and encouragement given to me by the Provincial Grand Registrar, the Provincial Grand Treasurer, the Provincial Deputy Grand Secretary and the Provincial Assistant Grand Secretary.

In conclusion:
